Our dog, the human....

.... somedays I often wonder if creatures like Delilah (our dog, half border collie/ half blue heeler), aren't proof that we reincarnate. Sometimes, she does things that are just so Human like. For example, she'll jump up and put both front feet on the counter, trying to fish dishes out of the sink to lick clean, or trying to find that one last tidbit of food left near the microwave. You want to punish her, because you know that's what you SHOULD do....but how can I tell her not to do something while I'm laughing too hard to breathe??
We've only had her a year, but she's taught us so much. I've learned patience, and another (there are many of them) level of unconditional love...she's taught me to stay calm, and she makes me feel safe, because I know she'd sooner die for Steven and me than let something happen. I wonder how that would turn out....because you don't wanna eff with my Doggy Face.
I look forward so much to spending the rest of her life with her, almost as much as I look forward to the future of Steven and me. She'll be there right along with me when I'm home alone for the first time with our brand new babies, when I graduate school, and, I'm sure, multiple moves...I write this now, about Delilah, as opposed to my Faithful Feline Companions, because of the time I've gotten to spend with her since I've been home. I love to wake up to her little furry face in mine (and furthermore, I don't care if you think that's gross or weird). Most of the time she stays in bed for a while, and sleepily comes trotting out later on in the morning. I didn't think a dog with this much personality was possible.
So here's to Delilah....
The one and only
